Young Indonesian Designers Bring Garut Leather Jackets to New York Indonesia Fashion Week

Taking advantage of the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) 2023, a number of Indonesian designers will show off their creations at the New York Indonesia Fashion Week (NYIFW) side event. One of them is Yumna Shiba.

The young 18-year-old designer will be showcasing his collection called the Bikers Collection. A total of 12 looks using monochrome colors, namely black, gray, white, and brown, will be shown in the show that takes place on the cruise ship on Saturday, February 11, 2023.

He admitted that working on the collection was quite lightning because the time he had was only two months. He is grateful to be able to complete the entire collection that carries the concept of masculine casual.

“But, the collection will be six for men and six for women,” he said.

Yumna became the youngest designer in the troupe brought by the Indonesia Fashion and Art Festival (IFAF). She only completed her education at the Islamic Fashion Institute Bandung after graduating from junior high school, as well as becoming the youngest graduate on campus last year.

“Now immediately focus on work, but if there is an offer of S2 study abroad, God willing, you want to follow,” said Yumna.

In addition to expanding the market, said Sandiaga, the presence of local fashion players at New York Indonesia Fashion Week is also expected to expand connections and insights in terms of product design. “By opening up these insights suddenly they have connections, experiences so that the designs they produce can be more varied and more confident,” he said.

Director of the Creative Industries of Fashion, Design, and Culinary of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Baparekraf, Yuke Sri Rahayu added that the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy fully supports the publication of IFAF’s participation in New York Indonesia Fashion Week. “One of our efforts is publication through this weekly brief,” said Yuke.

Yuke also said he would coordinate with the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Industry to bring Indonesian designers to the stage of official fashion weeks in various countries. “We’re going to try to collaborate,” Yuke said.

Citing Vogue, this year’s New York fashion week will highlight designer Raul Lopez’s Outer label after winning this year’s accessory designer title in America. She will present the closing show of fashion week on the last day and continue by staging pop ups at the Faurschou Gallery in New York from February 15–17, 2023.

Previously, the local modest brand Indonesia again penetrated the curation at the international fashion week. Zeta Prive will perform at New York Fashion Week (NYFW) 2023 on February 10–15, 2023.

“It is a matter of pride for the existence of the work of the nation’s children in the international fashion world. The fashion show will present masterpieces that present innovations in today’s fashion world,” said Trisha Chas, Owner of Zeta Prive during a press conference in Jakarta, Monday (30/1/2023).

Zeta Privé’s participation is an invitation to the NYFW fashion show through the “Indonesia Now” group show. Six selected Indonesian designers will be featured on the NYFW runway, where each Indonesian designer will display 10 looks.

New York as the world’s business, art and fashion center city has always been a topic of conversation. Based on this inspiration, Zeta Privé used the city as inspiration for the theme of the collection entitled “The Talking Point”.

This collection is present for 10 elegant, modern and ready-to-wear modest wear women’s clothing that is the spirit of American Style. A touch of soft yet versatiles color palette such as a palette of cream, ghost amer pink, harbour blue, basile, innuendo and sound sugar.
